So, yesterday was they day I think I made the biggest decision of my life. After looking at YouTube and being inspired by all the lovely ladies who went natural, I decided I was going to do it too. Now don't get the wrong idea about me, I am, by all means, no follower. I had been playing around with the idea for a while now (since my relaxed hair hasn't been doing so well these past few years) but just couldn't bring myself to let go of the relaxer. After seeing the beautiful women on YouTube sharing their journeys, it really inspired me and made me feel "OK, I CAN do this." Especially with all of the info an resources that is out there. Because my biggest hurdle in going natural, that always stopped me, was "what the heck am I going to do with my hair. I ain't wearin' no afro, and I'm definitely not chopping off the relaxed hair." But now I know there are so many ways to work with a natural besides an afro.
The only thing is, I know this transition is going to be super hard. I decided to go with a long transition so I can keep some length. From what I hear and have seen, that makes things more difficult. But I think ,even though it may be physically more difficult, emotionally it will make it easier. I have always had longish hair and had actually lost my hair twice (the stories are in My Background tab), so the thought of intentionally shortening my hair doesn't sit well with me, yet.
I had my last relaxer only 4 weeks ago, so making this decision is a lot easier when I still have decent edges and am not working with crazy thick new growth. We shall see if I still feel the same when it starts growing back.
For this blog, I will be tracking my progress throughout my transition to completely natural. So if any of you have any tips or advice, I am open to and would love to have them. Thanks!
